You are not your thoughts. You are so much more than your thoughts.
If, for example, you learn something new that changes the old beliefs you had, that does not make you a different person. You are still you – you just have different knowledge. So you – the essence of who you are – is way more than any thought or set of thoughts you have.
Why is this important to understand?
Well, because it’s important to understand that when others disagree with your thoughts or ideas, they are not disagreeing with the essence of who you are, they merely are disagreeing with your thoughts. And when you understand this, it makes it significantly easier to not take other people’s differing opinions personally.
