An elephant wanted to go for a ride in his master’s car, so he tried to convince his master that he was a dog – but the elephant was bigger than his master’s car, and you know what? His master wasn’t buying it. The elephant is not a dog.
Seems like a pretty absurd thought, right? Well, that’s because it is.
It’s also an equally absurd thought to try to convince others that you and I are someone or something other than what we actually are. Sometimes when we experience a lack of confidence, however, we try to overcompensate by exaggerating about who we are or what we’ve done. But just as an elephant isn’t really going to convince anyone that he’s anything other than what he is, ultimately, neither will you or I.
