Praise for Walking Through Anger

“Highly recommended! Dr. Conte engagingly offers an evolved and insightful perspective on how to effectively deal with one of the most significant issues of our time. If you are interested in an authentic solution to anger and conflict in today’s world—read this book.”

—Rich Pfeiffer, MDiv, PhD, president of the National Anger Management Association (NAMA)

“In this truly excellent self-help book, Dr. Christian Conte teaches us that rather than ignoring conflict and anger, the solution is to “walk through” and experience them.  In ten clear and engrossing chapters, he offers both a powerful philosophy by which to live life and an evidence-based set of procedures to help you do so. His Yield Theory approach to authentically listening to others with compassion, validating their thoughts and feelings, and exploring options for problem resolution is the cornerstone of conflict reduction and self-improvement. Read this book and you will surely move forward towards personal happiness.”

—Howard Kassinove, PhD, ABPP, author of Anger Management: The Complete Treatment Guide for Practitioners and coauthor of Anger Management for Everyone: Seven Proven Ways to Control Anger and Live a Happier Life

Walking Through Anger in the Media

Rather than using language like ‘he shouldn’t have said that,’ or ‘this shouldn’t have happened,’ think about the reality of the situation, says Conte: “It did happen, and now, the question is, why choose to consciously carry it into your present moment?”

Rather than letting the past ruin your present, Conte suggests learning to realign expectations with reality, and focus on the present instead.

In his new book Walking Through Anger, Christian Conte describes a clear and simple path to inner and outer-peace using what he calls Yield Theory. Proven in prisons, this practice works—if you choose to live it.

The Making of A Peacemaker: An Interview with Christian Conte Spirituality & Health

Conte compares the approach to the martial art aikido where the goal is to “maintain control of your own energy and redirect where others attempt to send you. If a person pushes you, instead of resisting and pushing back, you yield and pull that person.” It’s the same if someone tries to strike you; you redirect the energy away from you.

Using Conte’s Yield Theory, you deal with heated encounters in a similar way: “You do not resist the energy that others emote toward you in a conflict. Through nonresistance, you allow them to release whatever energy needs to come out.” Once this energy is released, you can then move on to finding a possible solution to the conflict.
